is Professor of Natural Resources Policy and Director of the Bolle Center
for People and Forests, at the University of Montana. As appointed by the
Secretary of Agriculture, from 2014-2018, Nie served as the "science
community" representative on the U.S. Forest Service's National Advisory
Committee for Implementation of the National Forest System Land Management
Planning Rule. In 2010, Nie served on the Forest Service's National Science
Panel focused on the development of the planning rule. His experience
incorporates 20 years of teaching and research focused on federal public
lands and wildlife policy, law, planning, and conflict.

Rule and Its Implementation.

is the Executive Director of the Ecosystem Management Research Institute, an
independent non-profit that specializes in ecosystem-based conservation
planning. Previous positions have included Professor of Wildlife Ecology at
Michigan State University, and Manager of Wildlife and Ecology Programs for
Boise Cascade Corporation. Jon holds B.S., M.S., and Ph.D degrees in
wildlife ecology and is a Certified Wildlife Biologist. He is a
past-president of The Wildlife Society, President of the North American
Grouse Partnership, and serves on the Sustainable Forestry Initiative's
Board of Directors.  

Jon will speak to Planning for Ecological Integrity.

is Professor in the Ecology Department and Director of the Landscape
Biodiversity Lab at Montana State University. His research focuses on
interactions among biodiversity, climate change, and land use, with an
emphasis on large landscape management and protected areas. He received a
Ph.D. in ecology at the University of Tennessee and the Oak Ridge National
Laboratory. Current research at Montana State University focus on sustaining
wildland ecosystems under climate and land use change, with a focus on the
US and eight countries in the humid tropics.  This work uses a combination
of remote sensing, spatial analysis, computer simulation and field studies.
Dr Hansen currently is on the science leadership teams for the North Central
Climate Science Center and the Montana Institute of Ecosystems.  He is
co-editor of the recent book, "Climate Change in Wildlands: Pioneering
Approaches to Science and Management.  

Andrew will speak on:  Vegetation climate adaptation planning in support of
the Custer Gallatin National Forest Plan revision.
