Peter Kolb's excellent webinar is now at:

https://youtu.be/QTAZzoTpBIU

This was held on 9/22 at the fairgrounds, and on Zoom. We had
some technical challenges with the internet at the fairgrounds, so
there are a couple of brief glitches, but generally the video is a
cleaner copy than the original. We had lots of questions from the
50 people attending, so the discussion is excellent.

The primary focus is assessment of damage to trees, vegetation
and soils, but there's also a lot of discussion of remediation
options. Christopher Mahony and Avery Hackett from NRCS also give
a brief discussion of cost-sharing and other resources available.
Finally, Peter gives a recap of the fire's behavior on Friday and
Saturday. All the materials referenced in the videos are linked
at:

This is a fairly long video, but I strongly encourage watching
it, even if your property didn't burn. The rest of us may be next.
For properties that burned, there are some strong reasons for
immediate action to prevent soil erosion with cover crops or
contour felling, and some more subtle pros and cons for salvage
logging. For everyone, there are evidently some real concerns
about erosion and debris flows, at least if we're unlucky with the
weather. This could affect key roads in the canyon.

On that last point, there's interest in helicopter seeding of
cover crops. See the two messages following.

We are interested doing helicopter seeding on the steep burned
slopes on our property. It turns out that our neighbor up Beasley
Creek has a company that does just that. The more properties we in
list the price for it will go down. Because this is an emergency
to prevent land slides and creek damage we may be able to get
matching funds from BAER There are many burned slopes that seem
to be similar to ours in Bridger Canyon. If you’re interested in
exploring this with me call Bob Newhall at 539–4046
